Willie Junior Maxwell II (born June 7, 1991), known as Fetty Wap, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He became famous in 2014 with his song "Trap Queen". This song reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart. After this success, he signed with 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records.
In 2015, two more of his songs, "679" and "My Way" (which featured Drake), also made it into the top ten. These songs, along with "Again", were part of his first album, Fetty Wap (2015). This album reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Fetty Wap is known for mixing singing and rapping, having fun lyrics, and using catchy phrases like "1738!".
In 2016, he released singles like "Jimmy Choo" and "Wake Up". He also appeared on Fifth Harmony's song "All In My Head (Flex)." His 2018 song, "Keke" (with 6ix9ine and A Boogie wit da Hoodie), was also popular.
Fetty Wap has been nominated for two Grammy Awards. He won "Best New Artist" at the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Awards and "Top New Artist" at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. He has faced legal challenges and was sentenced to prison in 2022.

Early Life and Music Start
Willie Maxwell II was born and grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. He was born with a condition called glaucoma in both eyes. In 2015, he shared that doctors could not save his left eye. He now uses an ocular prosthesis for that eye. He went to Eastside High School. He later left school to focus on his music career.

Starting Out and First Album (2013–2015)
Fetty Wap became interested in making music in 2013. He first started as a rapper. Then, he decided to sing as well to try something new. His friends nicknamed him "Fetty." He added "Wap" to his name to honor rapper Gucci Mane, who was also known as Guwop.
Fetty Wap's first official song, "Trap Queen", came out in early 2014. This song was on his mixtape Up Next, released in July 2014. He recorded "Trap Queen" in February 2014. It became very popular by late 2014. The song has been certified platinum and has been played hundreds of millions of times on SoundCloud. In November 2014, Fetty Wap signed a recording contract with 300 Entertainment. This company works with Atlantic Records for music distribution.
On June 29, 2015, Fetty Wap released his second single, "679". The music video for "679" was first shown on YouTube in May. "679" had an early version with only Monty. Fetty Wap added a verse to it later. His next song, "My Way", also became a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Later, Drake made a new version of "My Way" that was played on the radio. After that, "679" reached number four on the Hot 100 chart.
From July 26 to August 1, 2015, Fetty Wap achieved a rare feat on the Billboard charts. He was the first male rapper since Eminem in 2013 to have three songs in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100. He was also the first male rapper since Lil Wayne in 2011 to have multiple songs in the top 10 at the same time. With his fourth single, "Again", Fetty Wap made history. He was the first artist in the 26-year history of the Hot Rap Songs chart to have his first four songs all reach the top 10.
Fetty Wap's first studio album, Fetty Wap, was released on September 25, 2015. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. Fetty Wap then released two mixtapes for streaming. These were Coke Zoo with French Montana and ZOO 16: The Mixtape with Zoo Gang. Fetty Wap received two nominations at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.
New Music and Projects (2016–2020)
On February 5, 2016, Fetty Wap released a new song called "Jimmy Choo". In April 2016, it was announced that Fetty Wap would have his own mobile racing game. This game became available on phones, tablets, and Apple TV in May. The game is part of the Nitro Nation Stories series. It is a street racing game with multi-player options and car customization. It also has different stories to choose from. The Fetty Wap version includes Fetty Wap and Monty in the game's story.
Fetty Wap was featured on the Fifth Harmony song "All in My Head (Flex)". He released the song "Wake Up" in April 2016. The music video for this song was filmed at his old school, Eastside High School. His song "Make You Feel Good" was released in August 2016.
On November 21, 2016, he released a mixtape with 19 songs called Zoovier. His song "Like a Star" features Nicki Minaj and came out in December 2016.
On January 4, 2017, he released "Way You Are" featuring Monty. He released "Flip Phone" on February 10, 2017. He also walked in Philipp Plein's fashion show during New York Fashion Week in February 2017.
He released the song "Aye" on May 12, 2017. He released the mixtape Lucky No. 7 on June 7, 2017. On August 18, 2017, he released "There She Go" featuring Monty. In October 2017, Fetty Wap was featured on Cheat Codes' song "Feels Great" with CVBZ.
On January 19, 2018, Fetty Wap released the EP For My Fans III: The Final Chapter. He released the mixtape Bruce Wayne in June 2018. In 2018, it was reported that Fetty Wap had signed with Tr3yway Entertainment.
On June 7, 2019, his birthday, Fetty Wap released the song "Birthday". On September 27, he released "Brand New". On February 14, 2020, he released the mixtape Trap & B.
Recent Releases (2021–Present)
On September 28, 2021, Fetty Wap shared a preview of his song "Out The Hood" on Instagram. He hinted at a new release coming on October 22. On October 13, 2021, Fetty Wap showed the cover art for his album The Butterfly Effect. This album was released on October 22, 2021, through 300 Entertainment & RGF Productions. The album's title was inspired by his late daughter, Lauren.
In November 2022, Fetty Wap released his song "Sweet Yamz". This song was a new version of "Yamz" by Masego and Devin Morrison. "Sweet Yamz" became very popular on TikTok. Singer Charlie Wilson even released his own version of the song. Rapper Snoop Dogg called it the "song of the year".
In November 2023, Fetty Wap released his third studio album, King Zoo. The album included "Sweet Yamz" and featured Coi Leray. This was his first album released after facing legal issues.
In early January 2025, Fetty Wap's song "Again" became popular again on Instagram Reels and TikTok. People used the phrase "Blasting Fetty Wap on a JBL speaker" with the song.
In May 2025, Fetty Wap released a song called "Forever (71943509)". He recorded this song while in prison. The numbers in the title refer to his prison identification number. His brother also started an online petition to support Fetty Wap.
Musical Style and Influences

Fetty Wap describes his music as "ignorant R&B." He combines both singing and rapping in his songs.
Fetty Wap often wears the flag of Haiti. He does this to honor the late grandmother of a former girlfriend. He has said he "fell in love with the culture" of Haiti. Fetty Wap has also mentioned that Atlanta-based rapper Gucci Mane has greatly influenced his music.
Personal Life
Fetty Wap is a father to six children.
In September 2019, Fetty Wap married model Leandra K. Gonzalez. They later divorced after about a year.
In July 2021, one of Fetty Wap's daughters passed away at the age of four.
