Early Life and Family
Lily-Rose Melody Depp was born on May 27, 1999, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris, France. Her father is the American actor Johnny Depp, and her mother is the French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis. She has a younger brother named Jack. Her aunt, Alysson Paradis, is also an actress.
Through her father, Depp has mostly English, French, German, and Irish ancestors. She is also a descendant of Elizabeth Key Grinstead, who was one of the first African American women in the North American colonies to successfully sue for her freedom in 1656.
Because her parents were famous, Depp was often in the news from a young age. She grew up spending time in Los Angeles, Paris, and New York City.
Career
Starting in Film and Modeling
Depp began her acting career in 2014 with a small role in the movie Tusk. A year later, when she was 16, she became a model for the famous French fashion brand Chanel. Her mother had also been a model for Chanel in the 1990s. Depp has since become one of the main faces of the brand.
In 2016, she returned to her role from Tusk in the movie Yoga Hosers. That same year, she had her first major role playing the famous dancer Isadora Duncan in The Dancer. For this role, she was nominated for Most Promising Actress at the César Awards and the Lumières Awards in France.
She also starred with Natalie Portman in the movie Planetarium. Portman chose Depp to play her younger sister in the film. In 2018, Depp starred in the French film Les Fauves (Savage) and the romantic comedy A Faithful Man. Her work in A Faithful Man earned her another nomination for Most Promising Actress at the César Awards.
Becoming a Mainstream Star
In 2019, Depp played Catherine of Valois in the historical movie The King, alongside Timothée Chalamet. The movie was released on Netflix, and critics praised her performance. One reviewer from Variety magazine said she "makes her presence felt, for perhaps the first time ever."

In 2021, Depp appeared in several films, including the thriller Crisis, the science-fiction movie Voyagers, and the psychological drama Wolf.
Depp made her television debut in 2023 in the HBO series The Idol, starring with the Canadian singer the Weeknd. The show received mixed reviews, but critics noted that Depp gave a strong performance. A song she recorded for the show, "One of the Girls", became very popular, with over one billion streams on Spotify.
In 2024, Depp starred as Ellen Hutter in the gothic horror film Nosferatu, directed by Robert Eggers. Her performance was highly praised. The Hollywood Reporter called it a "revelation" and said "the movie belongs to Depp."
Personal Life
Depp can speak both English and French fluently and holds citizenship in both the United States and France. She has spoken publicly about overcoming health challenges in her past.
In 2015, she took part in a photo project that supported people expressing their own identities. She later explained that her participation was about the freedom to be yourself, rather than a statement about her own personal life.
Since early 2023, Depp has been in a relationship with the rapper and singer Danielle Balbuena, who is known professionally as 070 Shake. In October 2024, Depp appeared in the music video for 070 Shake's song "Winter Baby / New Jersey Blues".
