Where Does it Start and End?
The journey of Limestone Creek begins in northern Lawrence County. This starting point is called the headwaters. It's located northwest of a town called Miller. The creek then flows generally north and northeast.
As it travels, Limestone Creek passes under roads like Missouri Route Z and Missouri Route 39. It goes by towns such as Pennsboro and South Greenfield. After passing South Greenfield, the creek turns east. It then joins Turnback Creek about two miles east of South Greenfield. This meeting point is called the confluence.
How Limestone Creek Got Its Name
The name "Limestone Creek" is quite descriptive. The creek was named because of the type of rock found along its path. Much of the ground and riverbed in this area is made of limestone. This type of rock is very common in the Ozarks region.
