The Lincoln Borglum Museum is a special place located right next to the amazing Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota. It's near a town called Keystone, South Dakota. This museum helps visitors learn all about how Mount Rushmore was built and the people who created it.
Discover the Museum
The museum has two theaters, each with 125 seats. Here, you can watch a 13-minute movie about the history of Mount Rushmore. It explains how this incredible monument was carved into the mountain.
Great Views and Trails
Just above the museum is a spot called Grandview Terrace. Many people think this is one of the best places to see Mount Rushmore. From Grandview Terrace, you can start walking on the Presidential Trail. This trail is a mix of walking paths and boardwalks. It winds through beautiful Ponderosa pine forests. As you walk, you get closer and closer to the giant faces on the mountain.
The Sculptor's Story
The Presidential Trail leads you to the Sculptor's Studio. This studio was built by Gutzon Borglum, who was the main artist behind Mount Rushmore. Inside, you can learn how the monument was constructed. You'll also see some of the actual tools that were used to carve the faces. It's a great way to imagine the hard work involved!
Evening Program
Every evening at dusk, there's a special 30-minute program at the amphitheater. This program tells more about how the memorial was built. After the program finishes, the mountain itself is lit up! The lights stay on for two hours, making the monument glow in the night. It's a truly amazing sight to see.
