Linden is a city in Dallas County, Iowa, United States. The population was 226 in the 2000 census and 200 at the time of the 2020 census. It is part of the Des MoinesWest Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Linden is located at 41°38′37″N 94°16′13″W / 41.64361°N 94.27028°W / 41.64361; -94.27028 (41.643709, -94.270294).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.79 square miles (2.05 km2), all of it land.

2010 census

As of the census of 2010, there were 199 people, 84 households, and 58 families living in the city. The population density was 251.9 inhabitants per square mile (97.3/km2). There were 92 housing units at an average density of 116.5 per square mile (45.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 99.0% White, 0.5% African American, and 0.5% Pacific Islander. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.0% of the population.

There were 84 households, of which 26.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 31.0% were non-families. Of all households, 23.8% were made up of individuals, and 13.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.81.

The median age in the city was 44.4 years. 23.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 4.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23.5% were from 25 to 44; 33.6% were from 45 to 64; and 14.6% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 58.3% male and 41.7% female.

Festivals

Annually, Linden hosts Linden Daze on the third weekend in August. Linden Daze includes a parade and street dance.

Parks and recreation

Linden has a well maintained city park, community building, and baseball field. A shelterhouse, a water fountain, and seasonal restroom facilities are located along the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Camping is available at Camp Riverside.

For outdoors and water enthusiasts, Linden has two nearby access points to the Middle Raccoon River: the Middle Raccoon River Access and the Cowles Access. The Middle Raccoon River Access is a hand carry down primitive access point to the river. Cowles Access is a hard-surface boat ramp. Camp Riverside is located at the Cowles Access.

Education

Panorama Community School District serves the community. The district formed on July 1, 1989 as a merger of the Panora-Linden and Y-J-B school districts. The school buildings are in Panora.
