Lionville is a special kind of community in Uwchlan Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it's not officially a city or town with its own local government.
In 2020, about 6,582 people lived in Lionville. Before 2010, this area was known as "Lionville-Marchwood." However, "Marchwood" actually refers to a specific group of houses built in the 1960s.
Lionville is easy to get around because two main roads, PA 100 and PA 113, cross through it. You can find homes, hotels, restaurants, and many other businesses here.
The area was first called Welsh Pool. But its name was changed to Lionville to honor a local hotel called the Red Lion Inn. There was already a town named Red Lion, Pennsylvania, so they chose Lionville instead. A part of Lionville along Village Avenue is a special historic area. The Friends Meeting House in Lionville was even used as a hospital by the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.
Lionville has its own ZIP Code and post office. However, it has never had mail delivered directly to homes. Many people used to pick up their mail at a general store or fire station. Now, many residents use a Downingtown address for their mail. Also, because some of Lionville is in the Exton ZIP code area, many businesses in Lionville use the Exton name.
