Lisa Jane Vanderpump (born September 15, 1960) is a famous English TV star and actress. She became well-known when she joined The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2010. She was on the show until 2019.
After becoming famous on Housewives, Lisa started many other TV shows where she was the main star. She is a cast member and a producer for Bravo's Vanderpump Rules, which began in 2013. This was the first show to spin off from Housewives. In 2021, she starred in E!'s Overserved with Lisa Vanderpump and Peacock's Vanderpump Dogs. Her newest show, Vanderpump Villa, started on Hulu in 2024. It is the fifth spin-off from Vanderpump Rules.
Lisa and her husband, Ken Todd, have owned many restaurants, bars, and clubs. These include popular spots like SUR, Villa Blanca, and Tom Tom. They have opened these businesses in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
Early Life and Education
Lisa Jane Vanderpump was born in Dulwich, London, England, on September 15, 1960. She was the younger of two children. Her dad, John Vanderpump, was an art director, and her mom was Jean. Lisa's older brother, Mark, was a DJ and businessman.
Lisa started ballet lessons when she was just three years old. She went to Riverston School in Lee Green, South London. When she was nine, Lisa joined the Corona Academy drama school to learn acting. By the age of 19, Lisa had bought her own apartment in Fulham, West London. She was able to support herself financially after moving out of her family home.
Lisa Vanderpump's Career
Lisa Vanderpump first appeared in a movie when she was 13. It was a romantic comedy called A Touch of Class in 1973. She played Julia Allessio, the daughter of the main character. Her first movie role where she was named in the credits was as Anne in the 1978 horror film Killer's Moon.
At 14, she started her TV career in 1974. She played Ursula Marsh in the first episode of John Halifax, Gentleman. Throughout the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, she had small parts in many TV shows. These included Silk Stalkings and Baywatch Nights.
Lisa also appeared in music videos in the 1980s. She was in "Poison Arrow" and "Mantrap" by the band ABC. She was also in "(What) In The Name of Love" by Naked Eyes. Later, in 2014, she was in the music video for "G.U.Y." by Lady Gaga.
Lisa has been in over 100 commercials. She advertised products like Maltesers, Lilt, Britvic 55, and Hamlet cigars.
Her big break in reality TV came on October 14, 2010. She joined Bravo's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills as one of the first main cast members. After nine seasons, she announced she was leaving the show on June 3, 2019.
Since January 7, 2013, Lisa has been a cast member and a producer for Vanderpump Rules. This show is a spin-off from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
In March 2013, she competed on Dancing with the Stars in its 16th season. Her dance partner was Gleb Savchenko. They were the second couple to be eliminated, finishing in tenth place on April 9.
In March 2021, Lisa appeared on E!'s Overserved with Lisa Vanderpump. In this show, Lisa hosts celebrity guests and cooks meals for them. Also in March, she was a judge on ABC's Pooch Perfect. This show was about dog grooming. In June, she starred in another spin-off show, Peacock's Vanderpump Dogs. This series shows Lisa and her team running her dog rescue center in Los Angeles.
Lisa is also a main cast member and producer for Hulu's Vanderpump Villa. This show started on April 1, 2024.
Business Ventures
In May 2005, Lisa and her husband partnered with Guillermo Zapata and Nathalie Pouille Zapata. They became co-owners of SUR Restaurant & Lounge in West Hollywood, California. This restaurant was the main setting for the show Vanderpump Rules.
In August 2009, she opened Villa Blanca. However, this restaurant closed in July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lisa started her own alcoholic drink brand in 2013 with Vanderpump Vodka. In February 2014, she launched LVP Sangria, which was later renamed Vanderpump Sangria. In May 2014, she opened Pump Restaurant, her second restaurant in West Hollywood. This restaurant closed in July 2023. In April 2017, she launched Vanderpump Rosé, her first wine. After its success, she started Vanderpump Wines and added Vanderpump Chardonnay and Vanderpump Cabernet in April 2020.
In November 2014, she released a line of home goods called Vanderpump Beverly Hills.
In July 2018, Lisa and her husband teamed up with Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz. They opened Tom Tom Restaurant & Bar, her third restaurant in West Hollywood.
In March 2019, she opened Vanderpump Cocktail Garden. This was her first place in Las Vegas, located in Caesars Palace. In July, she partnered with Nick Alain to launch Vanderpump Alain, a home decor collection.
In April 2022, Lisa opened Vanderpump à Paris. This is her second Las Vegas spot, found in the Paris Las Vegas casino hotel.
Lisa also plans to open Wolf by Vanderpump, her third business in Nevada. It is located at Harveys Lake Tahoe and opened in April 2024. In November 2023, Lisa announced that her third Las Vegas restaurant, Pinky’s at the Flamingo, is set to open in summer 2024.
Other Projects
In November 2012, Lisa started a lifestyle blog called Very Vanderpump. From March 2017 to October 2018, she was the editor-in-chief of Beverly Hills Lifestyle Magazine.
The Vanderpump Dog Foundation
The Vanderpump Dog Foundation started online in 2016. On March 1, 2017, Lisa opened the Vanderpump Dogs rescue center in Los Angeles. She also has two rescue centers in China.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Lisa has raised over $383,000 for her foundation through Cameo (as of February 2023). The Vanderpump Dogs Foundation has saved about 3,000 dogs from shelters in the US.
Personal Life
Lisa met her husband, businessman Ken Todd, in May 1982 at his first bar in Kensington, London. They got married on August 28, 1982. They have two children: a daughter named Pandora and an adopted son named Max. Lisa also has one stepson from Ken's first marriage. She has one grandson from her daughter.
Lisa currently lives in Beverly Hills, California. She has also lived in London, Cheltenham, Monaco, and the South of France. She owns another property in Montecito. In 2011, Lisa sold her home in Beverly Park and bought her current estate, Villa Rosa, in the Beverly Crest neighborhood.
Charity Work
In March 2013, Lisa received the Key to the City of Beverly Hills. The mayor, Jimmy Delshad, also declared March 1 as 'Lisa Vanderpump Day'. This was to honor her charity work. In July 2014, she was given a Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
In August 2015, Lisa received the Ally Leadership Award from Equality California. This group works for LGBTQ+ rights.
In October 2015, she organized a peaceful protest march against the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. The march went from MacArthur Park to the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles. This started a movement to stop the abuse and killing of dogs around the world. With her husband Ken and their partner, John Sessa, they launched the Stop Yulin Forever campaign. Lisa even spoke to Congress about these issues.
In March 2018, Lisa produced a documentary called The Road To Yulin… And Beyond. This film aimed to bring more attention to the Yulin Dog Meat Festival and help end it.
