The Lisbon Christmas tree is a giant, man-made Christmas tree. It is put up every year in Lisbon, Portugal. This tradition started in 2004.

Since 2005, this tree has been known as Europe's tallest Christmas tree. It even made it into the Guinness World Records! The tree's height changes each year. Its tallest height was 76 meters (about 249 feet) in 2007.

About the Lisbon Christmas Tree

The Lisbon Christmas tree is a very special sight. It brings a lot of holiday cheer to the city. People from all over come to see its bright lights.

Where the Tree Has Been

The first Lisbon Christmas tree was put up in 2004. It stood in a famous spot called Comercio Square. This is a large, beautiful square in Lisbon.

In 2007, the tree left Lisbon for a short time. It was set up in Porto, which is Portugal's second-largest city. But in 2008, the tree came back to Lisbon. This time, it was placed in Edward VII Park.

Competing for Tallest Tree

In 2007, the Lisbon Christmas tree was 76 meters tall. At the same time, a Christmas tree in Bucharest, Romania, was also 76 meters tall. They were both competing for the title of Europe's tallest Christmas tree.

The Lisbon Christmas tree kept its title. This happened because no Christmas tree was put up in Bucharest in 2009. So, Lisbon's tree remained the tallest in Europe.
