Conus lischkeanus, also known as the Lischke's cone, is a type of sea snail. It lives in the ocean and is a mollusk, which means it has a soft body, often protected by a shell. This snail belongs to the family called Conidae, which includes all the cone snails.

Like other cone snails, Conus lischkeanus is a predator. This means it hunts and eats other small sea creatures. These snails are also venomous. Their sting can be harmful to humans, so it's very important not to touch them if you find one alive.

About the Lischke's Cone Shell

The shell of an adult Conus lischkeanus can be anywhere from 20 mm to 75 mm long. That's about the size of a small button to a large thumb.

Shell Features

The top part of the shell, called the spire, has whorls that look like a spiral staircase. These whorls have a shallow groove or channel. The main part of the shell, known as the body whorl, feels smooth. It has small lines near its bottom.

Shell Color

The shell is usually a bright sulphur-yellow color. It doesn't have many patterns or decorations, except for some spots on the spire. The opening of the shell, called the aperture, is white.

Where Lischke's Cone Snails Live

This marine snail is found in many different parts of the ocean. You can find it off the coasts of Japan and Taiwan. It also lives near Queensland and Western Australia in Australia.

Ocean Habitats

Other places where Conus lischkeanus has been found include New Zealand, New Caledonia, and the Kermadec Islands. There have also been reports of this snail in the Philippines. In the Indian Ocean, it's found from Natal, South Africa, all the way to the Gulf of Aden.
