Lissette Álvarez Chorens, known simply as Lissette, is a talented singer, songwriter, and music producer from Cuba. She was born on March 10, 1947. Many people know her for her Spanish version of the song "Total Eclipse of the Heart", which she recorded in 1985.
Early Life and First Steps in Music
Lissette was born on March 10, 1947, in Lima, Peru. At that time, her parents, Olga Chorens and Tony Álvarez, were famous Cuban TV stars who were touring South America.
When Lissette was just 5 years old and living with her family in Havana, Cuba, she made her very first recording. It was a children's song called "El Ratoncito Miguel," which became a popular hit.
In 1961, when Lissette was 14, she and her sister Olguita moved to Dubuque, Iowa, in the United States. This happened through a program called Operation Peter Pan. This program helped about 14,000 Cuban children move from Cuba to the United States. Lissette has also supported groups that work for freedom.

Her song, "Si hay amor volverá" (which means "If there is love, he will return"), was very well-received. She finished in second place, tying with the singer from the Dominican Republic.
Lissette started her career in Puerto Rico as a teenager. Later, she moved to Miami. She hosted her own TV shows on the Telemundo network in Puerto Rico for several years. She also worked on special TV shows in Miami, Florida, which won Emmy Awards.
