List of Rajput dynasties and states facts for kids
The Rajputs were a group of brave rulers and warriors in India. They became very important during the medieval period, which was a long time ago. Many parts of the Indian subcontinent were ruled by different Rajput families. These areas were often called princely states.
The Rajputs became powerful when the big empires of ancient India started to break apart. They rose to fame around the seventh century. They mostly ruled in areas we now know as Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, and parts of the northern plains and Bundelkhand.
It's interesting to know that the word "Rajput" wasn't always used. Before the 16th century, these ruling families weren't called "Rajputs." The term became common later, but historians use it to describe these noble families from earlier times.
