Covered bridges are special bridges that have roofs and walls, just like a house! They were built this way to protect the wooden parts of the bridge from rain, snow, and sun. This helped the bridges last much longer. Many of these beautiful bridges are still standing today across the United States. They are often called "kissing bridges" because their enclosed space offered privacy for a quick kiss!

Smith's Bridge

Smith's Bridge is located in Beaver Valley. The original bridge was built in 1839, but it sadly burned down in 1961. It was rebuilt several times, including in 1962 and 2002. This bridge is 143 feet long and crosses the Brandywine Creek. It uses a Burr Truss design.

Wooddale Bridge

The Wooddale Bridge is found in Wooddale, Delaware. It was built around 1850 and rebuilt in 2008. This bridge is 60 feet long and also crosses the Red Clay Creek. Like the Ashland Bridge, it uses a Town lattice truss.

Scarborough Covered Bridge

The Scarborough Covered Bridge is located in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. It was built in 1959 and renovated in 1993. This bridge is 55 feet long and crosses the Cooper River. It uses a Town lattice truss and is sometimes called the "Kissing Bridge."

The Bunker Hill Covered Bridge is in Claremont, North Carolina. It was built in 1895. This bridge is 81 feet long and crosses Lyle Creek. It is the only bridge in the United States that uses a special Haupt design.

Pisgah Community Covered Bridge

The Pisgah Community Covered Bridge is located in Pisgah, North Carolina. It was built around 1910. This bridge is 51 feet long and crosses the upper branch of the Little River. It uses a modified queen design.

Will Henry Stevens Covered Bridge

The Will Henry Stevens Covered Bridge is in Highlands, North Carolina. It was built in 2008. This bridge is 87 feet long and crosses a creek. It uses a Town design. This bridge was actually moved here from Warner, New Hampshire, where it was known as the Bagley Bridge!

Campbell's Covered Bridge is located in Gowensville, South Carolina. It was built in 1909 and rebuilt in 1992. This bridge is 41 feet long and crosses Beaver Dam Creek. It uses a Howe design.

Edgemont City Park Covered Bridge

The Edgemont City Park Covered Bridge is in Edgemont, South Dakota. It was built in 2011. This bridge is 120 feet long and crosses a pond. It uses a Town design and is located at the Trails, Trains & Pioneers Museum.
