How Ladakh Became a Union Territory
In August 2019, the Indian Parliament passed a special law. This law was called the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. It changed the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The law split it into two new Union Territories. These were Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This change happened on October 31, 2019. The new law also created the job of Lieutenant Governor for Ladakh.
