From January 1, 1969, to March 5, 1990, Slovakia was known as the Slovak Socialist Republic. It was a part of the larger country called the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. After that, from March 6, 1990, until December 31, 1992, it was called the Slovak Republic. During this time, it was part of the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic. These prime ministers played a key role in leading the Slovak government before Slovakia became an independent country.
