List of volcanic craters in Alaska facts for kids
Alaska is a state in the United States known for its amazing natural beauty. It is also home to many volcanoes. When volcanoes erupt, they can sometimes create large bowl-shaped holes called craters. The U.S. National Geodetic Survey has found thirteen important craters in Alaska. These craters are often found in areas where volcanoes have been active for a very long time.

What are Craters?
A crater is a bowl-shaped dip or hole in the ground. Most craters in Alaska are formed by volcanoes. When a volcano erupts with great force, its top can collapse inward, forming a large crater called a caldera. Other craters can be formed by explosions of gas and steam.
Alaska is part of the "Ring of Fire." This is a large area around the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions happen. This is why Alaska has so many volcanoes and craters.
