The Lithophragma cymbalaria is a beautiful flowering plant. It is often called the mission woodland star. This plant belongs to the saxifrage family.

What Does It Look Like?

The mission woodland star is a plant that lives for many years. It grows from a special underground stem called a rhizome. This helps it spread and come back each year.

The plant grows upright or leans a bit. It has a thin, smooth stem where its flowers grow. Most of its small leaves are found near the bottom of the stem. Each leaf is divided into three round parts.

The stem usually has 2 to 8 flowers. Each flower sits in a cup-shaped part called a calyx. This calyx can be red or green. The flower has five white petals. Each petal is less than one centimeter long. Their edges are smooth or have very tiny teeth.
