The Little Bachelor River is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Bachelor River. This area is part of the Eeyou Istchee James Bay (municipality) in the Nord-du-Québec region.
The river flows through two areas called Benoit and Nelligan. The main activity here is forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. People also visit for fun activities like tourism.
A road called Quebec route 113 runs near the river. It connects the towns of Lebel-sur-Quévillon and Chibougamau. There's also a Canadian National Railway line nearby.
The Little Bachelor River usually freezes over in early November. It stays frozen until mid-May. It's generally safe to walk or travel on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.
River's Journey and Location
The Little Bachelor River starts as a small stream in a forest. This spot is about 314 meters (1,030 feet) above sea level. It's located in the Benoit area of Eeyou Istchee James Bay (municipality).
The river flows for about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) through forested land.
- For the first 5.5 kilometers (3.4 miles), it flows northeast through the Benoit area.
- Then, for 6.5 kilometers (4 miles), it continues northeast through the Nelligan area, passing through some swampy parts.
The Little Bachelor River eventually joins the Bachelor River. From there, the water generally flows northwest. It then enters Lake Waswanipi, which is part of the Waswanipi River system. The water continues to flow west through other lakes like Goéland Lake and Olga Lake. Finally, it reaches Matagami Lake.
From Matagami Lake, the water flows into the Nottaway River. The Nottaway River then empties into Rupert Bay, which is part of James Bay.
