About the Little Calfpasture River

The Little Calfpasture River is located in western Virginia. It plays a role in the local environment and water systems. Understanding rivers like this helps us learn about how water flows across the land.

Where Does the River Start?

The Little Calfpasture River begins high up in the mountains. Its source is found east of a place called Elliott Knob. This area is on Great North Mountain, which is part of the Allegheny Mountains. The river starts its journey in Augusta County, Virginia.

The River's Journey

As the river flows, it travels southwest. It winds its way between two mountain ranges: North Mountain and Little North Mountain. Along its path, the Little Calfpasture River enters Rockbridge County, Virginia. It passes by small communities. These include the village of Augusta Springs, Virginia and the town of Craigsville, Virginia.

Where Does the River End?

The Little Calfpasture River doesn't flow directly into the ocean. Instead, it joins another river. It meets the Calfpasture River to form the Maury River. This meeting point is just upstream of a famous spot called Goshen Pass. Goshen Pass is a special place where the river cuts through Little North Mountain.
