The Little Cold River is a small stream, about 3.9 miles (6.3 kilometers) long. It flows through the western part of Maine in the United States. This river winds its way through the lower hills of the White Mountains. It is a branch, or "tributary," of the Cold River. Both rivers are part of the larger Saco River watershed, which means their water eventually flows into the Saco River.
The River's Journey
The Little Cold River starts in Chatham, New Hampshire. It forms where two smaller streams, McDonough Brook and Watson Brook, join together. From there, the river flows towards the east.
After flowing for only about half a mile, the river crosses the border and enters the state of Maine. It then turns more towards the southeast. The river passes by the village of Stow. Finally, it meets the Cold River. This meeting point is about one mile upstream from where the Cold River ends at Charles Pond in Fryeburg.
