The Little Ski Hill is a fun and modest ski area located in the western part of the United States. You can find it in west central Idaho, just two miles (about 3 km) west of the town of McCall. It's right next to Highway 55, and it used to be called the "Payette Lakes Ski Area."

Discover Little Ski Hill!

Little Ski Hill is a special place that has been helping young people and the skiing community for over eighty years! It was first built in 1937. Back then, it was a winter activity for local forest workers.

What Makes Little Ski Hill Special?

This small but exciting place has an alpine hill, which is perfect for downhill skiing. A special T-bar surface lift helps pull you up the hill. This lift takes you up 405 vertical feet (123 meters). It's the only ski area around that has lights for night skiing!

The top of the hill is 5,600 feet (about 1,707 meters) above sea level. The slopes face north and west, which often means good snow conditions.

More Winter Fun Activities!

Besides downhill skiing, Little Ski Hill also has lots of trails for cross-country skiing. There are about 18.6 miles (30 km) of groomed trails ready for you to explore. It also has a special area for biathlon, which is a sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

Famous Skiers from Here

Many talented skiers have connections to Little Ski Hill.

Corey Engen, a legendary skier, lived in McCall for 50 years. He taught skiing at Little Ski Hill for many years. Later, in 1961, he helped create the nearby Brundage Mountain ski resort.

The area also used to have a large ski jump. It was about 50-60 meters tall. A strong wind destroyed it in the 1990s. But don't worry, a smaller 25-30 meter ski jump is still used today!

Patty Boydstun, a famous World Cup alpine ski racer, grew up in McCall. She learned to ski right here at Little Ski Hill! Patty finished eighth in the slalom event at the 1972 Winter Olympics. She also had ten top 10 finishes in World Cup races.
