Old Mills and Factories

Many years ago, several mills were built along the Hakihokake Creek, which flows through Little York.

  • At the Upper Mill site, an oil mill was built around 1815–1835. This was a place where oil was made, probably from seeds. A grist mill, which grinds grain into flour, was built there around 1855.
  • At the Lower Mill site, another grist mill was built around 1815–1825. These mills were very important for the community long ago.

Historic Buildings and Homes

The Alexandria Presbyterian Church Chapel was built in 1844. It was made using parts of an even older church from 1795 that was in Mount Pleasant. This chapel shows a simple style of Greek Revival architecture.

  • A house at 531 Spring Mills Road was built between 1810 and 1830. It was later updated around the 1870s and shows influences from Italianate and Gothic Revival styles.
