Club's History
Ljungskile SK was formed in 1926. The club became famous for how quickly it moved up through the leagues between 1990 and 1997. In 1990, Ljungskile SK was playing in Swedish Division 5. They then moved up to Division 4, Division 3, and Division 2. After that, they reached Division 1. Finally, in 1997, they made it to Allsvenskan, which is Sweden's top football league.
After reaching Allsvenskan for the first time, the club got a sponsor. A company that makes swimwear, Panos Emporio, started supporting them. Because of this, the club played under the name Panos Ljungskile SK from 1997 to 2002. During these years, the club was moved down from the top league twice, in 1997 and 2000. This is called "relegation."
They played for some years in Division 2 Västra Götaland. But they managed to move back up to Superettan in late 2004. They won a special qualifying match against Väsby IK to do this. On October 21, 2007, the club moved up to Allsvenskan again for the second time ever. They won against Landskrona BoIS in an away game. In 2008, Ljungskile SK even became the most successful club from their region, Bohuslän, in the history of Allsvenskan. They took this title from IFK Uddevalla.
