Loch Achtriochtan (pronounced 'Lock Ach-tree-och-tan'), sometimes called Loch Trychardan, is a beautiful freshwater lake, or 'loch,' found in the amazing Scottish Highlands. It's located just east of Glencoe village, a famous spot known for its stunning scenery. This special loch is looked after by the National Trust for Scotland, an organization that helps protect important places. Long ago, in the 1700s, the loch once flooded its banks, causing people living nearby to move to safer areas.

The Landscape Around Loch Achtriochtan

Loch Achtriochtan is a small, clear freshwater loch. It gets its water from the River Coe, which flows into it. The River Coe then continues its journey, eventually reaching Loch Leven at a place called Invercoe.

If you look to the south of the loch, you'll find Achnambeithach Cottage. You can reach this cottage from the A82 road. To the north, towering mountains like Sgorr nam Fiannaidh and Stob Coire Leith stand tall. To the south, you can see the impressive peaks known as the Three Sisters. Loch Achtriochtan is about three miles away from Glencoe village.
