Loch Chon is a beautiful freshwater lake, known as a loch in Scotland. It is located in Perthshire, a historic area in Scotland. This loch is found west of the village of Aberfoyle.
Loch Chon is an important part of the local water system. It sits upstream from another loch called Loch Ard. It is also south of the famous Loch Katrine.
Water Flow and Connections
Loch Chon plays a key role in the journey of water through the Scottish landscape.
The Water of Chon
The loch's water flows out into a stream called the Water of Chon. This stream is about 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) long. Not far from where it starts, the Water of Chon passes by a smaller loch called Loch Dhu.
Source of the River Forth
The Water of Chon is the main stream that feeds into Loch Ard. This means it's a major tributary (a stream or river that flows into a larger one). Loch Chon itself gets its water from several small streams. These tiny streams are actually considered to be the very beginning, or the true sources, of the mighty River Forth. The River Forth eventually flows into the Firth of Forth, which is an estuary that connects to the North Sea.
