Lockport is a small place in Indiana that doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's located in Adams Township, which is part of Carroll County, Indiana. This community is also considered part of the larger Lafayette area.

History

Lockport has an interesting past! A post office, where people could send and receive mail, first opened here in 1838. It served the community for many years but closed down in 1904.

The name "Lockport" comes from its connection to the Wabash and Erie Canal. This was a very important waterway long ago, used to transport goods and people. Lockport was named because of the special "lock gates" that were part of the canal system here. These locks helped boats move up or down between different water levels.

Geography

Lockport is situated close to nature. It's less than half a mile northwest of the Wabash River, a major river in Indiana. A smaller stream called Burnetts Creek also flows along the east side of the community.
