What is the History of Loda?
The village of Loda got its name from a poem called "Cath-Loda" by Ossian. A post office has been open in Loda since 1880.
Where is Loda Located?
Loda is in the southwestern part of Iroquois County, Illinois. You can find it at these coordinates: 40°30′59″N 88°4′26″W / 40.51639°N 88.07389°W.
U.S. Route 45 goes right through the middle of the village. This road can take you about 6 miles north to Buckley, Illinois or 4 miles south to Paxton, Illinois. Interstate 57 also passes by the west side of Loda, but there isn't a direct exit into the village from it.
Loda covers a total area of about 1.48 square miles (3.82 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.47 square miles (3.80 square kilometers), is land. A very small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.02 square kilometers), is water.
Bayles Lake: A Nearby Water Spot
Just west of Loda, you'll find Bayles Lake. This is a freshwater reservoir. It was created from Spring Creek, which flows north into the Iroquois River. The Iroquois River is part of the Kankakee River system.
