Lomonosov is a town in Russia. It is located close to the big city of St Petersburg.

This town used to be called Oranienbaum. That was a German name. It meant "Orange tree." Long ago, the town had special greenhouses. These greenhouses grew plants from far-off countries. Oranienbaum was also known for making colorful glass.

The town's name changed in 1948. It became Lomonosov, which is a Russian name.

There is an old palace in Lomonosov. It was built in the early 18th century. This palace is special because it was not taken over by German forces. This happened during the Second World War. Other famous palaces near St Petersburg were captured.
