The Lone Pine series is a collection of exciting adventure books for young people. These stories were written by an English author named Malcolm Saville.
Even though these books were written over many years, from 1943 to 1978, the characters in the stories only grow up a little bit. The first books feel like childhood adventures from the 1940s and 1950s. They are similar to Enid Blyton's famous Famous Five books. In these stories, kids are allowed to have big adventures, explore mysterious places, and even meet villains, often without adults watching over them. An artist named Bertram Prance drew the pictures for these early Lone Pine books.
Later books in the series changed to fit the 1960s and 1970s. The older characters become teenagers, and new friends join the Lone Pine Club.
Many of the Lone Pine books take place in the beautiful countryside of Shropshire, England, especially around the Long Mynd. But the adventures also happen in other parts of England. These include Sussex (near Rye), Dartmoor, the Goathland and Whitby areas of Yorkshire, and the Southwold and Walberswick coast in Suffolk. One book, Lone Pine London, is even set in the big city of London.
The books also share some of Saville's beliefs and values. The motto of the Lone Pine Club is "From Loyalty to Love." This phrase shows the important ideas that the author wanted to share in his stories.
