Longs, South Carolina facts for kids

Longs is a small place in Horry County, South Carolina, USA. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government. Longs is located north of Myrtle Beach. You can find it where two main roads meet: Highway 9 and Highway 905.

Longs has many new neighborhoods and places to live. It also has several golf courses and local shops. This area is growing quickly, just like other towns near the Grand Strand coast.

Even though Longs is mainly around Highways 9 and 905, its mail delivery area is much bigger. This postal area also covers parts along S.C. 90. To the south of Highway 90, the city of North Myrtle Beach has started to take over land. This land is now part of North Myrtle Beach, even though it's in the 29568 zip code. Some neighborhoods like Bells Lake are in this area. The Palmetto Coast Industrial Park is also located here.

History of Longs

Longs became a community because of the Long family. This family started building many public buildings and projects. One of the first things they built was a Baptist church.

The Long family also got involved in construction and building with bricks. Their companies, like JD Long Masonry and Long Enterprises, grew very big. They worked on projects all along the eastern coast of the United States. Today, some of the Long family members still live in South Carolina. Others live in places like California, North Carolina, and New York.
