Lonnie White Jr. grew up in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. He went to Malvern Preparatory School, where he was a star athlete. Lonnie played three different sports: baseball, basketball, and football.
Baseball and Football Talents
During his sophomore year in high school, Lonnie showed his skills in baseball. He hit for a .283 batting average. He also hit six doubles and four home runs, bringing in 25 runs for his team in 33 games.
Lonnie was so good that colleges wanted him for both baseball and football. At first, he planned to play college baseball at Clemson University. But later, during his junior year, he decided to play college football instead. He chose Penn State University over other big schools like the University of Michigan and Michigan State University.
Senior Year Success
In his senior year of high school, Lonnie continued to shine. In football, he caught 17 passes for 369 yards and scored five touchdowns in just four games.
His baseball skills were also impressive. He batted .395, which means he got a hit almost 40% of the time. He hit five home runs, 11 doubles, and brought in 25 runs. He also scored 36 runs himself and stole 26 bases. Because of his amazing performance, many people saw him as a top player for the upcoming Major League Baseball draft.
