Lorraine Copeland (born Elizabeth Lorraine Adie, 1921 – April 2013) was an important archaeologist. She studied the Stone Age period in the Near East. She also worked as a secret agent during World War II.

Early Life and Education
Lorraine Copeland was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1921. Her father was a brain surgeon in London. She went to a private school for girls called Wycombe Abbey.
Working as a Secret Agent
During the Second World War, Lorraine Copeland worked for British Intelligence. She was part of a special group called the Special Operations Executive. This group carried out secret missions.
She met her future husband, Miles Copeland, Jr., during this time. He was working for the US Army in the UK. They got married on September 25, 1942. Soon after, Miles's work took them to the Near East. They lived in places like Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt. It was there that Lorraine first became interested in archaeology.
Discovering Ancient History
Lorraine Copeland spent over 50 years working in Stone Age archaeology. This field studies the earliest period of human history. She was connected with the University College London Institute of Archaeology. She also advised the Stone Age Institute. In 2004, a special book was published in her honor. It was called "From the River to the Sea."
Her Family
Lorraine and Miles Copeland had four children. All of them became well-known in their own careers.
- Their oldest son, Miles Copeland III, became a leader in the entertainment business.
- Ian Copeland was a music promoter and booking agent.
- Their daughter, Lorraine "Lennie" Copeland, became a writer and film producer.
- Stewart Copeland is a famous musician. He is best known as the drummer for the band The Police.
Lorraine's husband, Miles, passed away in 1991. Her son Ian died in 2006. Lorraine Copeland herself died on April 27, 2013. She passed away at Chateau Marouatte in Dordogne, France. She is buried next to her husband in Aston Rowant, Oxfordshire.
