Loretta Lynn Morgan (born June 27, 1959) is an American country music singer and actress. She is the daughter of famous country singer George Morgan. Lorrie Morgan has been singing since she was 13 years old.
She became very successful between 1988 and 1999. Her albums Leave the Light On, Something in Red, and Watch Me sold over a million copies each. Her album Reflections: Greatest Hits sold over two million copies, making it her best-selling album.
Morgan has had more than 40 songs on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. Three of her songs reached number one: "Five Minutes", "What Part of No", and "I Didn't Know My Own Strength". She also had 11 other songs in the top 10. She has sung with many famous artists like Dolly Parton, Frank Sinatra, and The Beach Boys. Lorrie Morgan is also a member of the Grand Ole Opry, a famous country music show.

Early Life and First Steps in Music
Loretta Lynn Morgan was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 27, 1959. Her father was the well-known country singer George Morgan.
When she was just 13, Lorrie Morgan performed for the first time at the Grand Ole Opry. Her father brought her on stage to sing "Paper Roses". She later said that the audience gave her a standing ovation, which means they clapped loudly for a long time.
After her father passed away in 1975, Lorrie toured with his band for a few years. She also worked as a receptionist and sang demo songs for other artists.
Starting Her Recording Career
In 1979, Lorrie Morgan signed with Hickory Records. She released two songs that year, "Two People in Love" and "Tell Me I'm Only Dreaming". Both songs appeared on the country music charts. She also released a song called "I'm Completely Satisfied with You" which included her father's voice.
In the early 1980s, Lorrie continued to perform in clubs. She opened shows for other singers and sang backup for George Jones. In 1984, she became the youngest person to join the Grand Ole Opry. That same year, she released three songs with MCA Records, but only one, "Don't Go Changing", made it onto the charts.
Success with RCA Records (1989–1991)
In 1988, Lorrie Morgan signed with RCA Records Nashville. Her first song with them, "Trainwreck of Emotion", reached number 20 on the country charts. This song was part of her first album, Leave the Light On.
More hit songs followed, like "Dear Me" and "Out of Your Shoes", which both made it into the top 10. Then came "Five Minutes", which was her first number-one hit! Another top 10 song, "He Talks to Me", also came from this album.
The album also featured a duet with Keith Whitley called "'Til a Tear Becomes a Rose". This song later won an award from the Country Music Association. Critics praised Leave the Light On for mixing traditional country with modern pop sounds. By 1993, the album had sold over a million copies.
Her second album with RCA, Something in Red, came out in 1991. This album also sold over a million copies. It included four songs that made the country charts, such as "We Both Walk" and "Except for Monday". The album also had a duet with Dolly Parton called "Best Woman Wins".
Moving to BNA Records (1990s)
In 1992, Lorrie Morgan moved to a new record label called BNA Entertainment. Her first album with BNA was Watch Me, released that same year. The song "Watch Me" reached number two on the charts.
Her next song, "What Part of No", became her second number-one hit in early 1993. It stayed at number one for three weeks, which was her longest time at the top! Other songs from the album included "I Guess You Had to Be There" and "Half Enough". Watch Me was her third album in a row to sell over a million copies.
At the end of 1993, Lorrie released her first Christmas album, Merry Christmas from London. This album featured an orchestra and duets with Tammy Wynette, Andy Williams, and Johnny Mathis. She also started acting around this time, appearing in TV movies like Proudheart and The Stranger Beside Me.
Her next studio album, War Paint, came out in 1994. This album included two songs that Lorrie helped write, including the title track and "If You Came Back from Heaven". She wrote "If You Came Back from Heaven" as a tribute to Keith Whitley. The album also featured a duet with Sammy Kershaw on the song "A Good Year for the Roses". War Paint sold over 500,000 copies.
In 1995, Lorrie released her first Greatest Hits album. It had many of her popular songs and three new ones. One of the new songs, "I Didn't Know My Own Strength", became her third number-one hit! Another new song, "Back in Your Arms Again", reached the top five. This Greatest Hits album became her most successful, selling over two million copies.
Later 1990s and Beyond
Lorrie's album Greater Need was released in 1996. It included a duet with Jon Randall called "By My Side". The album also featured guest singers like Vince Gill and Travis Tritt.
She released Shakin' Things Up in 1997. This album had the top-10 hit "Go Away" and the top-20 song "One of Those Nights Tonight". Lorrie also helped produce this album. Shakin' Things Up sold over 500,000 copies.
In 1998, she released Secret Love, an album of classic cover songs from the 1940s and 1950s. She dedicated this album to her father, who introduced her to this type of music.
Her last album with BNA was My Heart in 1999. It included a duet with Sammy Kershaw called "Maybe Not Tonight". After this, Lorrie left BNA Records.
In 2001, Lorrie and Sammy Kershaw released a duet album called I Finally Found Someone. The album's title song was originally sung by Barbra Streisand and Bryan Adams. One song from the album, "He Drinks Tequila", was Lorrie's last song to reach the top 40 on the country charts.
Lorrie continued to release music in the 2000s and 2010s. Her album Show Me How came out in 2004. In 2009, she released A Moment in Time, which featured covers of traditional country songs. She also released I Walk Alone in 2010, which included songs she helped write and produce.
In 2014, Lorrie teamed up with Pam Tillis for a collaboration album called Dos Divas. They released a second duet album in 2017 called Come See Me and Come Lonely. Lorrie Morgan continues to tour and perform at the Grand Ole Opry. Her most recent album, Dead Girl Walking, was released in 2024.

Personal Life and Family
Lorrie Morgan has been married several times. Her first husband was Ron Gaddis, a musician. They had one daughter, Morgan Anastasia Gaddis.
She later married country singer Keith Whitley. They had a son named Jesse Keith Whitley. Lorrie has said that she felt Keith was "The One" for her.
Lorrie married Brad Thompson in 1991, but they later divorced. She also dated football player Troy Aikman and politician Fred Thompson.
In 1996, she married country singer Jon Randall. She also wrote a book about her life and love story. Lorrie and Jon divorced in 1999.
Her fifth marriage was to country singer Sammy Kershaw in 2001. They divorced in 2007. In 2010, Lorrie married Randy White, a business owner from Tennessee.
