The Los Bracitos tree frog (Boana heilprini), also known as the Hispaniolan green treefrog, is a type of frog. It belongs to the Hylidae family, which includes many tree frogs. This special frog lives only on the island of Hispaniola. You can find it in areas up to about 1,856 meters (6,089 feet) above sea level. This frog was named after Professor Angelo Heilprin, who helped pay for the trip where it was first found.

Where the Los Bracitos Tree Frog Lives

The Los Bracitos tree frog naturally lives in mountain streams. These streams are usually found within moist forests with broadleaf trees. These forests are important for the frog's survival.

Adapting to Different Places

Even though they prefer forests, these frogs can also live in places changed by people. You might find them in plantations where cacao or coffee grows. They can also live in pastures, farm fields, and areas where people raise animals or cut down trees. However, they still need small patches of forest to survive in these changed areas.

Protecting the Los Bracitos Tree Frog

Sadly, the Los Bracitos tree frog is facing threats. Its home is shrinking because of human activities.

Main Threats to Their Home

  • Farming: As more land is used for farms, the frog's forest habitat disappears.
  • Logging and charcoal making: Cutting down trees for wood or to make charcoal also destroys their homes.
  • Mining: Digging for minerals can damage the environment where these frogs live.
  • New buildings and roads: Building new structures and roads also takes away their natural habitat.

Protecting these forest areas is very important to help the Los Bracitos tree frog survive for the future.
