Where is Lough Alewnaghta?

This lake is about 1.5 km (0.9 mi) long. It is also about 0.5 km (0.3 mi) wide. Lough Alewnaghta is located about 23 km (14 mi) south of a town called Portumna. It is also very close to the western shore of a much larger lake, Lough Derg. Most of Lough Alewnaghta is in County Clare. A smaller part of it stretches into County Galway.

Lough Alewnaghta is home to many different types of fish. You can find perch and roach here. There are also bream and pike. A very special fish, the European eel, also lives in the lake. The European eel is currently in danger and needs our protection.
