Louise Giblin (born 1963) is a British artist. She creates sculptures by making casts of people's bodies. She is very well known for her special project called "Body-Casting Olympians." Louise Giblin is also a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors.

Becoming a Sculptor

Louise Giblin studied art at two famous schools. She trained at Brighton Polytechnic from 1982 to 1986. She also studied at the Chelsea College of Arts from 1989 to 1993. She learned from well-known sculptors like Antony Gormley. In 2014, she became a full member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.

Art Awards and Recognition

Louise Giblin was chosen to represent the UK at a special art event. This event was called the G7 of Art. It was part of a bigger G7 of Culture meeting in Florence, Italy. This shows her art is recognized internationally.

The Olympians Project

In 2011, Louise Giblin started a cool project. She wanted to capture the bodies of five famous British Olympic athletes. This project is called "Body-Casting Olympians."

To make the sculptures, the athletes had to wear a special cast for about an hour. Each body cast weighs around 10 kilograms (about 22 pounds). After the cast was made, Louise added special designs to the surface. These designs showed things important to the athletes' lives.

Part of the money from this project went to a charity. The charity, called Headfirst, helps research brain injuries. Because of this project, some people call Louise Giblin "one of the world's leading body cast sculptors."

Living Legends Project

Louise Giblin also created a project called "Living Legends." These artworks were shown at Gallery Different in London in November 2014. Many famous people attended the opening of this exhibition.

This project included head and body casts of well-known people:

  • Michael Portillo: A head casting from 2011. It has a medieval Spanish town cast onto his right cheek.
  • Lord Colin Moynihan: A head casting from 2012.
  • Heather Mills: A body casting from 2012.
  • Duncan Goodhew: A head casting from 2014 with water ripples on it.
  • Reuben Richards: A singer, with three head castings from 2013.
  • Daniel Whiston: A figure skater from "Dancing on Ice," with a body casting from 2014.

War Veterans Project

This project is about remembering history. Louise Giblin makes casts of the hands and other body parts of British military people. These are people who served in wars after World War One.

The project started on the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One. It was planned to be shown until November 2018. That date was the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One.

  • A Sgt who served in Palestine from 1945–47.
  • A Gunner who served in Korea from 1951–52.
  • A Maj who served in Northern Ireland from 1970–93.
  • A LCpl who served in Dhofar from 1976–77.
  • A Mne who served in the Falkland Islands during Operation Corporate in 1982.
  • A Capt who served in Bosnia during Operation Grapple in 1985.
  • A Trooper who served in the Gulf War during Operation Granby from 1990–91.
  • A Lt Col who served in Croatia during Operation Hanwood in 1993.
  • A Combat Medic SSgt who served in Rwanda during Operation Gabriel in 1994.
  • A Maj who served in Bosnia during Operation Palatine in 1998.
  • A Capt who served in Kosovo during Operation Agricola in 1999.
  • A Lt Col who served in Sierra Leone during Operation Palliser in 2000.
  • A Capt who served in Afghanistan during Operation Fingal in 2005.
  • A LCoH who served in Iraq during Operation Telic 10 in 2007.
  • A SAC (T) who served in Iraq in 2007, Jon-Allan Butterworth (a Paralympian Cyclist).
  • A CT who served in Libya in 2011, John Kirk (a Para Snow Sports Skier).

Louise Giblin's art has been shown in many places. She has had exhibitions in London, Edinburgh, and other cities. Her work has even been shown internationally.
