Louisville is a small village in Clay County, Illinois, United States. It is located along the Little Wabash River. In 2020, about 1,136 people lived there. Louisville is also the main town, or county seat, of Clay County.

History of Louisville
The village of Louisville got its name from the Lewis family, who were early settlers in the area.
Grand Army of the Republic Post
A group called the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) had a local club in Louisville. This club was known as the Louisville Post, No. 249. It was named after William J. Stephenson. The club officially started on May 18, 1883. The GAR was an organization for soldiers who fought for the Union in the American Civil War.
Geography of Louisville
Louisville is located near the middle of Clay County. You can find it at these coordinates: 38°46′17″N 88°30′23″W / 38.77139°N 88.50639°W. U.S. Route 45, a major highway, goes right through the village. This road goes north about 25 miles (40 km) to Effingham. It also goes south about 8 miles (13 km) to Flora.
In 2021, Louisville covered a total area of about 0.83 square miles (2.15 square kilometers). All of this area is land. The Little Wabash River flows along the eastern side of the village.
