The Lower Guadiana International Bridge is a special bridge that connects two countries: Spain and Portugal. It crosses the Chança River, which forms part of the border between these two nations. This bridge helps people and goods travel easily between southern Spain and Portugal.
The bridge was opened on February 26, 2009. It is about 140 meters (459 feet) long and 11 meters (36 feet) wide. It is also free to use, meaning there are no tolls on either side.
Temporary Closure
For a few months, from December 2016 to June 2017, the bridge was closed. This happened because of a landslide on the Spanish side. A landslide is when a lot of earth and rocks slide down a slope. This made the bridge unsafe for a while. After repairs were made, the bridge was reopened for everyone to use again.
