About Lua Blanco
Her Early Life
Lua Blanco was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Her father, Billy Blanco Junior, is a musician, and her mother is Maria Claudia Blanco. Lua's grandfather, Billy Blanco, was also a very successful bossa nova artist.
Lua grew up in a big family with many musicians. She has an older brother, Pedro Sol, and four younger siblings: Ana Terra, Estrela, Daniel, and Sol. The family moved often, even living in Peru for two years. Lua and her siblings were home-schooled in English and later learned Portuguese. They were involved in music and community projects from a young age.
Lua started performing with her family's musical group when she was very young. They even recorded an album called O Trem do Arco-Íris (The Rainbow Train). In 2004, her family released a Christmas album called Família Blanco – É Natal (It's Christmas).
Starting Her Career (2005–2006)
After their Christmas album came out, Lua and her family often performed on weekends and holidays. They played in restaurants and shopping malls in Rio de Janeiro. Their shows featured mostly bossa nova and The Beatles songs.
In 2006, when Lua was 19, she started studying English and Portuguese translation at a university. There, she met other musicians and they formed a pop-rock band. The band was first called Collecting Dreams, but later changed its name to Lágrima Flor. This name was a tribute to her grandfather's famous song. Lua was the lead singer and helped write songs. Her time with the band helped her find her own musical style.
Acting on Stage and Screen (2008–2010)
Lua took many classes to improve her acting and singing skills. She studied theatrical interpretation and attended workshops for film and TV.
She began acting in 2008. Her first role on stage was Isolde in a play called Romeu e Isolda. That same year, she appeared in the TV show Três Irmãs (Three Sisters), playing a surfer named Bia.
In 2009, Lua returned to theater in the musical O Despertar da Primavera (Spring Awakening). She played the character Mariana. Out of three thousand people who auditioned, Lua and two of her siblings were among the finalists. In 2010, they released a soundtrack album for the musical. Lua also played a rock musician named Joe in the TV show Malhação. She also became a young host for the TV show TV Globinho.
In 2010, Lua played Grace in the TV show As Aventuras do Didi (The Adventures of Didi). She also re-recorded popular songs like "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton and "Umbrella" by Rihanna. These songs were released on an album called Relaxing Bossa – Volume 4.
In early 2011, Lua appeared in the movie Teus Olhos Meus (Soulbound).
Becoming Famous with Rebelde (2011–2013)
Lua Blanco became widely known for her role as Roberta Messi in the Brazilian version of the TV show Rebelde. This show was inspired by a Mexican telenovela. Lua was chosen for the role after many auditions, where she showed her acting, dancing, and singing skills.
Rebelde was about the daily lives of teenagers at a fancy boarding school. It explored common challenges teenagers face, like dealing with difficult family situations or fitting in. The show started on March 21, 2011, and ended on October 12, 2012, with 410 episodes.
Lua and the five other main actors from Rebelde – Arthur Aguiar, Chay Suede, Mel Fronckowiak, Micael Borges, and Sophia Abrahão – also formed the band Rebeldes. They signed a deal to tour and record music while the TV show was on. They performed about 90 shows across Brazil over three years. Their first tour, the Rebel Tour, had shows where Lua sang "Firework" by Katy Perry for huge crowds. After the TV show ended, they continued with a Farewell Tour called Nada Pode Nos Parar (Nothing Can Stop Us).
On September 23, 2011, the band's album Rebeldes was released. It sold about 120,000 copies and earned a platinum award. The music video for their song "The Way I Am" came out in December of that year.
Rebeldes' Achievements
In early 2012, the six main actors filmed commercials for skin care products. These products later became an official sponsor of the band.
On April 11, the band released their first live album and DVD, Rebels Live. It was recorded during their shows in São Paulo. The album sold 40,000 copies, earning a gold award, and the DVD sold 50,000 copies, earning a platinum award. They also released a music video for the song "Nada Pode Nos Parar." In June, "After the Rain" became another popular song. On December 9, 2012, the band released another studio album, Meu Jeito, Seu Jeito (My Way, Your Way).
In 2012, Lua also appeared as an actress in the music video "It was the Chosen" for her former band, Lágrima Flor.
The Rebeldes band performed their final show in Belo Horizonte on May 4, 2013.
