The History of Luckey Village
Luckey village got its name from Captain James B. Luckey. He was a soldier in the U.S. Army from 1861 to 1864. In 1879, Captain Luckey bought a lot of land, about 180 acres. He built a saw mill there, which is a factory for cutting wood. Two years later, in 1881, a man named Isaac Krotzer mapped out the town. Several businesses started up, including a post office, a factory for making barrel parts (called a stave factory), and a hotel. The post office in Luckey has been open since 1881. The village officially became a village (this is called incorporated) in 1940.
From 1949 to 1958, there was a special factory near Luckey. It made a metal called Beryllium for the United States Atomic Energy Commission. More recently, in 2019, a company called NSG started building a new factory. This factory makes float glass for another company called First Solar. It was the first new glass plant built in the USA since 1980.
