Luigi De Agostini was born on April 7, 1961. He is a former professional footballer from Italy. He mostly played as a defender. He was often an attacking full-back or winger on the left side of the field.
Luigi could also play in many other positions in both defense and midfield. He played for the Italian national team in big tournaments. These included UEFA Euro 1988 and the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

Luigi's Club Football Journey
Luigi De Agostini was born in Udine, Italy. He started his professional football career with his hometown club, Udinese. His first game was a 0–0 draw against Napoli in March 1980.
He did not play much at Udinese at first. So, he moved to Serie C1 to play for Trento for one year. After that, he quickly returned to Serie A, Italy's top league. This time, he played for Catanzaro. Later, he went back to Udinese and played a much bigger role.
In 1986, he joined Hellas Verona. But his biggest success came the next year. In 1987, he signed with Juventus, one of Italy's most famous clubs.
Playing for Juventus
Luigi stayed with Juventus for five years. He usually played as a defender. But he also often played as a box-to-box midfielder. This meant he helped both in attack and defense. He worked very hard on the field.
Even though he was a defender, he wore the famous number 10 shirt. This number was given to him after the legendary player Michel Platini retired. With Juventus, he won two important trophies. They won the Coppa Italia (Italian Cup) and the UEFA Cup (a European competition) in the 1989–90 season.
He scored a goal for Juventus when they beat their rivals Fiorentina in the 1990 UEFA Cup Final. Luigi was good at taking penalty kicks. However, he is also remembered for missing a penalty against Fiorentina the next season. This happened after Roberto Baggio did not want to take a penalty against his old club. For Juventus, Luigi scored 28 goals in 217 games.
Later Club Years
After his time at Juventus, Luigi moved to Inter Milan for one year. Then, in 1993, he joined Reggiana. He played two seasons there before ending his professional career.
In total, Luigi played for 15 seasons as a professional. He played 378 games in Serie A. He scored 33 goals in these games.
Luigi's International Career with Italy
While playing for Juventus, Luigi De Agostini played his first game for the Italian national team. This was a 0–0 draw against Norway in May 1987.
With Italy, he played in UEFA Euro 1988. He scored a goal against Denmark in that tournament. Italy reached the semi-finals of Euro '88. He also played for Italy at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Italy finished fourth after reaching the semi-finals again.
He was also part of Italy's team for the 1990 FIFA World Cup held in Italy. The team reached the semi-finals but lost to Argentina in a penalty shootout. Even though Italy lost, Luigi scored his penalty in the shootout. Italy then won the bronze medal by beating England 2–1 in the third-place match.
Under manager Azeglio Vicini, Luigi often played as a wide midfielder or a wing-back. This was in addition to his usual full-back role. His last game for Italy was in September 1991. Italy lost 2–1 at home to Bulgaria. In total, he played 36 games for Italy and scored 4 goals.

Luigi De Agostini was a very flexible and hard-working defender. He could play on the left side of the field or even in the center of the defense. He was good at covering the whole left side of the field. He helped his team both in attack and defense.
