In 1992, he moved to Italy. There, he played for many famous teams. These included Cagliari, Fiorentina, Bologna, Como, Catania, Foggia, Venezia, and Lucchese. He became very well-known at Cagliari and Fiorentina. He was a great scorer in Serie A, which is Italy's top football league.

Later in his career, in 2006, he joined Nuorese. This team was in a lower league called Serie C2/A. He wanted to be closer to his family in Sardinia. In 2008, his club closed down. So, he moved to Serie D team Derthona.

In July 2009, Oliveira went back to Sardinia. He joined a club called Muravera, which was from his wife's hometown. He stopped playing football in 2010 when he was 41 years old.

Coaching Career: From Player to Manager

Towards the end of his playing days, Luís Oliveira also started coaching. For a few months in 2009–10, he was a player and a manager for Muravera. After he retired from playing, he decided he wanted to be a full-time coach.

In June 2011, he passed an important coaching exam in Italy. This exam is called the Category 2 (UEFA A) coaching exam. In March 2012, he returned to Muravera. This time, he was the main coach for the last four games of the season. He continued to coach Muravera for the 2012–13 season. During that season, he led his small club to win the Coppa Italia Eccellenza cup.

On August 1, 2014, Oliveira became the new head coach for Lega Pro club Pro Patria. However, he was only there for a short time. He was let go on November 4, 2014. He had only won one game out of 11 matches.
