About Lunice
Lunice's mother is from the Philippines. His father is from Haiti.
Early Life and Music Start
Lunice began his journey as a b-boy, which is a type of breakdancer. He danced in competitions with a group called the 701 Squad. In the early 2000s, he found his passion for making music. This happened after he heard how producer 9th Wonder created beats using a computer program called Fruity Loops.
First Performances and Collaborations
In 2007, Lunice played his very first show at an event called Bass Culture in Montréal. There, he met another artist named Sixtoo. Sixtoo invited him to perform at parties known as Megasoid. Since then, Lunice has been a part of the Turbo Crunk music crew.
In 2008, Lunice released a music video for a song called "Gucci Sweatshirt" by Lazersword. In 2010, he took part in the Red Bull Music Academy in London. This academy helps new music artists learn and grow. In the same year, Lunice also performed at the Sonar Music Festival.
Working with Record Labels
Lunice signed with the record label LuckyMe. He released two EPs (shorter albums) with them. These EPs were Stacker Upper in 2010 and One Hunned in 2011. Soon after, he connected with producer Diplo and his Mad Decent label.
This led to Lunice remixing a song called "Helicopter" by Deerhunter. A remix is a new version of an existing song. He then worked on more remixes and mixes for places like BBC Radio 1. He also performed at the Mad Decent Block Party events. In 2011, Lunice worked with singer Azealia Banks. He appeared in her music video for the song "212."
Since then, Lunice has worked with many other record labels. These include XL Recordings, Warner Bros. Records, and Big Dada. Throughout 2010 and 2011, Lunice traveled around the world to perform.
Forming TNGHT
Lunice and Hudson Mohawke created the music group TNGHT. They released an EP in 2012 with Warp and LuckyMe labels. This happened after they successfully headlined a show at Warp's SXSW event earlier that year. The two artists first met in 2008. Lunice had booked Hudson Mohawke to perform at one of his Turbo Crunk parties.
Solo Albums and EPs
In 2017, Lunice released his first full solo album, called CCCLX. In the same year, he also released an EP with The Alchemist. This EP was titled Moving Parts.
