Luther Barnes, born on March 10, 1954, is a talented musician. He is known as a record producer, director, songwriter, and composer. He is also the lead singer for two famous gospel groups: Luther Barnes and the Sunset Jubilaires, and the Red Budd Gospel Choir.

About Luther Barnes

Luther Barnes grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He is an ordained minister, which means he is a religious leader. His father, Faircloth Barnes, was also a famous musician. Faircloth wrote the well-known song "Rough Side of the Mountain." Luther is the second oldest of four brothers.

As an executive producer, Luther Barnes has helped create many gospel music albums. He has released over twenty-eight CDs. He has also performed with many popular gospel artists. These include Shirley Caesar, Kirk Franklin, and The Canton Spirituals. In 2005, he recorded with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. He even sang the national anthem for a Carolina Mudcats baseball game.

Today, Luther Barnes is the Senior Pastor and founder of the Restoration Worship Center. This church is located in Rocky Mount and was started in January 2014.

Education and Early Life

Luther Barnes is a graduate of the Nash-Rocky Mount Schools System. He also used to be a teacher. In 1976, he graduated from St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina. He earned a degree in Music Education. In February 2008, he was honored as a Distinguished Graduate from his college.

Luther realized he had a special gift for music when he was nine years old. He became the director of the "On the Rise Youth Choir." This choir was part of the Red Budd Holy Church. In 1987, Luther Barnes released his very first album. It was called "See What the Lord has Done."

His Family

Luther Barnes is the son of the late Rev. FC Barnes. He is married to Pamela Anglin Barnes. They have a daughter named Bonita Barnes-Greene. Bonita is married to Mark Greene, and they have a grandson named Joshua.

Luther also has many other family members. These include his cousins Deborah Barnes, Wanda Barnes, and Lisa Barnes. He has many aunts and uncles too.

The Red Budd Gospel Choir

The Red Budd Gospel Choir is made up of members of the Barnes family. It also includes members from the Red Budd Holy Church. Luther's cousin, Deborah Barnes, is a very important part of the choir. She is the main female singer.

Luther has mentored Deborah in her music career. Together, they are famous for their song "I'm Still Holding On." Deborah Barnes is known as a powerful singer in gospel music. She sings on most of Luther's music and his father's music.

Other family members in the group include Wanda Barnes and Lisa Barnes. His daughter, Bonita Barnes-Greene, also sings with them. The choir has many hit songs. Some of their popular songs are "So Satisfied" and "Spirit, Fall Fresh." Their song "Somehow Someway" was nominated for a Stellar Award in 2007.

The main singers for the choir are Luther, Deborah, and Wanda Barnes. The group has traveled all over the United States. They continue to sing and share their music today.

Awards and Recognition

Luther Barnes has received many awards for his music. As the lead singer of his groups, he has earned several honors. These include the 1992 Vision Award. He has also won the Stellar and GMWA Excellence Awards.

He was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2004. He also received a 2005 Stellar Award nomination. In 2006, he was inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame. This honor took place in Detroit, Michigan.

Luther Barnes has also received keys to several cities. He received the Key to the City of Brunswick, Georgia in 2008. He also got the Key to the City of Chesapeake, Virginia in 2008. Since 1996, he has hosted "The Annual North Carolina Fall Gospel Classic." This event is held every October in Rocky Mount, NC.
