Lyca Jane Epe Gairanod (born November 21, 2004) is a talented Filipino singer and actress. She became famous after winning the very first season of The Voice Kids Philippines. This win helped her get a music contract with UMG Philippines. Soon after, she started her acting career. She played herself in ABS-CBN's Maalaala Mo Kaya and appeared in Hawak-Kamay.

Lyca Gairanod's Early Life

Lyca Gairanod was born on November 21, 2004, in Tanza, Cavite, Philippines. Her family worked hard to earn money. Her father was a fisherman. Her mother, Maria Nessel Gairanod, collected plastic and old newspapers to sell. Lyca helped her mother and would sing for neighbors. In return, she sometimes received money or food. Lyca said she wanted to help her family and earn her own allowance.

The Voice Kids Journey

Lyca's journey on The Voice Kids began on May 8, 2014. During her audition, she sang "Halik" by Aegis. Coach Sarah Geronimo was very impressed and chose Lyca for her team. Another coach, Lea Salonga, almost chose her too.

Advancing in the Competition

Lyca moved on to the "battles" round on July 12, 2014. She won against Isaac Zamudio and Lee Marcelino. They sang "Isang Lahi" by Regine Velasquez. After the battles came the "sing-offs." In this round, artists chose their own songs. Lyca was chosen by Sarah Geronimo to move to the live shows. She sang the Tagalog version of Luther Vandross' "Dance with My Father".

Reaching the Finals

Lyca made it to the semi-finals. She sang "Pangarap na Bituin" by her mentor, Sarah Geronimo. This performance was during the live semi-finals on July 19, 2014. She received the most votes and advanced to the finals. Sarah Geronimo believed Lyca was slowly reaching her dream. She also felt Lyca could help her family escape poverty.

Winning the Championship

The finals had three rounds: a power ballad, an upbeat song, and a duet with a celebrity. Votes were counted after each round. The artist with the most votes at the end won.

Lyca sang "Narito Ako" by Regine Velasquez in the first round. For the second round, she performed "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen. In the third round, she sang "Basang-basa sa Ulan" with Aegis. Lyca Gairanod was announced as the first-ever winner of The Voice Kids Philippines.
