Lynn Everett McGlothen (born March 27, 1950 – died August 14, 1984) was an American professional baseball player. He played as a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). His career lasted from 1972 to 1982.

Lynn played for several teams during his career. These included the Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, and New York Yankees. He was chosen to be an All-Star in 1974 while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Lynn McGlothen's Baseball Journey

Lynn McGlothen was born in Monroe, Louisiana. He finished high school in 1968. After that, he briefly attended Grambling State University.

Starting His Professional Career

The Boston Red Sox picked Lynn in the 1968 baseball draft. He pitched for the Red Sox for parts of two seasons. His first full season in the major leagues was with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1974.

That year, he had a great season. He won 16 games and lost 12. His ERA was 2.70, which is very good for a pitcher. Because of his excellent performance, he was selected for the All-Star Game.

Key Moments and Team Changes

Lynn continued to pitch well for the Cardinals. He won 15 games in 1975 and 13 games in 1976. In 1975, he achieved a special feat. He struck out three batters on just nine pitches in one inning. This happened during a game against the powerful Cincinnati Reds.

After the 1976 season, Lynn was traded to the San Francisco Giants. He faced some challenges in 1977 due to a shoulder injury. This injury kept him off the field for much of the season.

In 1978, he moved to the Chicago Cubs during the middle of the season. He continued to be a strong pitcher for the Cubs. He won 13 games in 1979 and 12 games in 1980.

Later Career and Retirement

Unfortunately, elbow problems began to affect Lynn's pitching. These issues limited his playing time in 1981. He made only six starts that year for the Cubs and the Chicago White Sox.

He finished his baseball career with the New York Yankees in 1982. Over his 11 seasons in Major League Baseball, Lynn McGlothen had a career record of 86 wins and 93 losses. He recorded 939 strikeouts. His career ERA was 3.98 over 1492.2 innings.

His Passing

Lynn McGlothen passed away in 1984 at the age of 34. He died in a mobile home fire in Dubach, Louisiana.
