Lynnfield is a suburban community located in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. It is found northwest of the crossing of Delaware Route 3 and Baynard Boulevard, and northeast of the city of Wilmington.

About Lynnfield

Lynnfield is a neighborhood with 167 houses. These homes were built in 1952 by Franklin Builders. It was special because it was the first community in the area where all the houses had air conditioning. This was a big deal back then!

Early Days and Community Life

In the past, a single public transport line connected Lynnfield to Wilmington. This made it easier for people to travel to the city. The residents of Lynnfield formed a group called the Lynnfield Civic Association. This group helped deal with local issues and keep the community running smoothly. They even published a newsletter called "The Lynnfielder" every two months.

In 1970, a funny incident happened around Halloween. About 300 cars in Lynnfield had their tires let out. It was thought to be a big Halloween prank. Also, during the 1970s, a company called York Air Conditioning used Lynnfield in their ads. They pointed out that the air conditioners in Lynnfield homes were still working after 20 years. This showed how long their products lasted.

Community Concerns

Like many communities, Lynnfield has faced some challenges over the years. Residents have been concerned about flooding. This flooding happens along Shellpot Creek and the smaller streams that flow into it. The problem gets worse because of new buildings and development upstream, which can cause the land to wear away.

Water and Drainage

To help with local issues, residents once funded a program to control mosquitoes. This helped keep the community more comfortable. There was also a drainage ditch that flowed into Stoney Run. This ditch was seen as a safety risk for children playing nearby.

Safety and Rules

Because of the safety concern with the drainage ditch, a couple named Steven and Anita Zetlin built a fence. However, this fence caused some disagreement within the Civic Association. This was because the fence went against a rule or "deed restriction" that was in place for the properties.

Education in Lynnfield

Children living in Lynnfield attend schools within the Brandywine School District. This district serves the educational needs of the community's young people.
