Múte Inequnaaluk Bourup Egede, born on March 11, 1987, is a politician from Greenland. He served as the 7th Prime Minister of Greenland from 2021 to 2025. He also leads a political party called Inuit Ataqatigiit and has been a member of Greenland's parliament, the Inatsisartut, since 2015.

Early Life and Education
Múte Inequnaaluk Bourup Egede was born in Nuuk, Greenland, on March 11, 1987. He grew up in Narsaq and studied in Qaqortoq.
In 2007, he began studying history and culture at the University of Greenland. He was also the vice chairman of a student group for academics from 2011 to 2012. He left his studies in 2013 to help run his family's business.
Political Journey
Starting in Youth Politics
In 2007, Múte Egede was part of Greenland's youth parliament, known as the Inuusuttut Inatsisartui. This was an early step in his political career.
From 2013 to 2015, he led the Inuusuttut Ataqatigiit. This is the youth branch of the Inuit Ataqatigiit party.
Running for Parliament
In 2015, Egede ran for a seat in the Folketing, which is the national parliament of Denmark. Even though he received many votes, he did not win a seat at that time.
Later in May 2015, he became a member of the Inatsisartut, Greenland's own parliament.
Becoming a Minister
From 2016 to 2018, Egede worked as a minister. He was in charge of raw materials and the job market. For three months in 2017, he also temporarily managed areas like towns, small villages, and housing.
Leading His Party
On December 1, 2018, Múte Egede was chosen to be the leader of the Inuit Ataqatigiit party. He took over from Sara Olsvig.
He led his party into the 2021 Greenlandic general election. The party won 36.6% of the votes, making it the largest party in parliament. Egede himself received the most personal votes in the election, showing strong support from the public.
Serving as Prime Minister
On April 16, 2021, it was announced that the Inuit Ataqatigiit party had formed a government with another party, Naleraq. This new government, called the First Egede cabinet, had 10 members.
On April 23, 2021, the Inatsisartut officially confirmed Egede as the Prime Minister of Greenland. He became the youngest Prime Minister in Greenland's history. He formed a new government, the Second Egede cabinet, in April 2022.
During the 2025 Greenlandic general election, Egede received 3,276 personal votes. He lost to Jens-Frederik Nielsen, who received 4,850 votes.
Political Beliefs
Múte Egede is the leader of the Inuit Ataqatigiit party. This party believes in democratic socialism. He strongly supports the idea of Greenlandic independence, meaning he wants Greenland to become a fully independent country.
Personal Life
Múte Egede is married to Sara Biilmann Egede. They have one child together. He also has two other children from a previous relationship.
