M. M. Ruhul Amin (born December 23, 1942 – died January 17, 2017) was a very important judge from Bangladesh. He held the highest judicial position in the country, serving as the 16th Chief Justice of Bangladesh.

Learning and Education

Amin studied at the University of Dhaka. In 1963, he earned his master's degree in history. Later, in 1966, he completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. This law degree prepared him for a career in the legal system.

A Career in Law

Amin began his work in the judicial service in 1967. This means he started working for the court system. Over the years, he moved up in his career. By 1984, he became a district judge. A district judge oversees legal cases in a specific area. He worked as a district and sessions judge in four different districts.

In 1994, he was appointed an additional judge of the High Court. This is a higher court that handles important cases. Later, on July 13, 2003, he was promoted again. He became a judge of the Appellate Division. This division hears appeals from lower courts. From 2004, he also served as the chairman of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission. This group helps manage judges and the court system.

Becoming Chief Justice

On June 1, 2008, M. M. Ruhul Amin reached the peak of his career. President Iajuddin Ahmed appointed him as the 16th Chief Justice of Bangladesh. This role is the head of the entire judicial system in the country.

Later Life

M. M. Ruhul Amin passed away on January 17, 2017. He was receiving medical treatment in Singapore General Hospital at the time.
