Maasdonk was a small area in the southern Netherlands that used to be its own local government area, called a municipality. It existed from 1993 until January 1, 2015. On that date, Maasdonk joined with two bigger municipalities: 's-Hertogenbosch and Oss. This meant Maasdonk no longer existed as a separate municipality.
What is a Municipality?
In the Netherlands, a municipality is like a local government area. It has its own council and mayor. These local governments manage things like roads, schools, and local services for the people living there.
Why do Municipalities Merge?
Sometimes, smaller municipalities join together to form larger ones. This can happen for a few reasons. It might help them offer better services to citizens. It can also make managing the area more efficient. This is what happened with Maasdonk.
