Macaé Esporte Futebol Clube, often called just Macaé, is a professional football team from Macaé, a city in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They play in the Campeonato Carioca, which is the main football league for teams in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

History of Macaé Football Club

Macaé Esporte Futebol Clube started on July 17, 1990. Back then, it was known as Botafogo Futebol Clube. For the first eight years, the team played in amateur games. They won their first titles in 1994 and 1995, becoming champions in their home city of Macaé.

In 1998, the club became professional. This meant they started playing in bigger, more serious competitions. In their very first professional season, as Botafogo, they won the State Third Division championship. They also did well in other cups that year.

In 1999, the club changed its name to Macaé Sports. They played in the State Second Division and finished as runner-up. In 2000, the club officially became Macaé Esporte Futebol Clube. They almost reached the top league in Rio de Janeiro in 2002 and 2006, finishing second in the Second Division both times.

Macaé first played in a national competition in 2003. This was the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C. In 2009, the club had one of its best years. They finished fifth in the Campeonato Carioca, which earned them a spot in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D. In that competition, they were runner-up.

The biggest moment for Macaé came in 2014. They won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C after a thrilling 3-3 draw with Paysandu. This victory also meant they moved up to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B for the next year.

Macaé's Home Stadium

Macaé plays its home games at a stadium called Estádio Cláudio Moacyr. This stadium can hold up to 16,000 people, making it a great place for fans to watch the matches.
